Our founder and CEO, April has worked in risk & decision science at tech companies like Venmo, PayPal, and Amazon. She holds an M.Sc. in Social Innovation at The London School of Economics.

Our technical cofounder and CTO, Katie has built product at multiple startups and companies like Venmo and Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. She studied Computer Science at Columbia University.

Born and raised in rural South Africa, Rob's background is in accounting. He spent his career in nonprofit innovation, cofounding Simba as our Chief Financial Officer. Rob holds an M.Sc. in Social Innovation from The London School of Economics.

2019
The initial idea for Simba is born while conducting fieldwork in Mukuru, an informal settlement in Nairobi, Kenya while studying at The London School of Economics.
2020
The name “Simba” is coined and the initial business model explored as part of LSE coursework
Rob & April discuss using technology to support Rob’s work in southern and eastern Africa while on a roadtrip in Sicily.
2021
April & Katie agree to cofound Simba as a tech-for-good startup with Rob as 3rd cofounder and subject matter expert.
First MVP built for customer discovery. Iteration & pivot to current model.
2022
Simba is incorporated. First 2 pilot customers are signed. 🎉

Is there a free trial available?
Yes, you can try a demo survey for free - it even includes an AI integration to help you make questions for a short survey. Our friendly team can chat with you to try it out, just send us an email at demo@simbatech.io.
What kinds of plans do you offer?
Right now, we’re only onboarding new customers through our Simba Labs R&D program. Cohorts launch twice a year, in January and July, and have limited seats available. If you’re interested in participating, send us a message at demo@simbatech.io.
What is your pricing?
We offer two pricing tiers as part of Simba Labs. This reduced fee is a benefit of working with us on research & development. For organizations working with fewer than 20,000 beneficiaries and who do not support other organizations, the fee is $1,000 annually. For organizations with more than 20,000 beneficiaries or who support or work through other organizations, the fee is $5,000 annually. 

The annual subscription fee includes unlimited WhatsApp conversations and a capped number of SMS messages, depending on geography.
How does billing work?
Plans are per organization, not per seat, and includes unlimited WhatsApp conversations and a limited number of SMS messages based on geography. Our current Simba Labs membership allows organizations to pay in full or in two installments to participate, and we accept all forms of payment.
What can Simba be used for?
Simba is great for longitudinal and pulse-check surveys. These surveys are short, generally less than 20 questions, and repeatable. We find that this style of survey is great for sentiment analysis and getting real, direct data on change over time. It’s also a good fit  for market research and collecting information from distributed teams.Impact organizations often have long surveys, since they currently don’t have direct community outreach. We have methods for managing longer surveys (e.g. question randomization) to consolidate them for ease of delivery over Simba. Shorter surveys have higher completion rates, no matter what the delivery method!
Can Simba be used by any organization?
We specialize in impact organizations - organizations with a primary goal of positive social or environmental impact. These can be nonprofits, social enterprises, or governments. We do not and will never sell ads or sell the data we collect.
Is it safe to use AI for this kind of analysis?
Yes! We use AI to conduct tasks like coding for sentiment analysis or voice memo transcription - simple, repeatable tasks that would normally be done by a human. In fact, AI is more likely to execute these kinds of tasks reliably and without mistakes than human operators, because it is not prone to human error from things like fatigue or inconsistent training.We consistently cross-check our AI outputs to make sure they are in line with what we would expect from manual review.
Do you help organizations with other tech things?
As a Simba Labs member, organizations have access to our team for consulting and general R&D around data and impact measurement. Sometimes this means that we help out with other aspects of the organization, especially around data & technology.
How does Simba make money?
The international development sector is huge - Americans alone donate about $500 billion annually to nonprofits. We charge organizations in this sector a subscription fee for using our service.Simba is a for-profit social enterprise. We balance positive social impact with profitability, and believe it’s important to be self-sustaining in order to ensure we’re creating value and can scale our impact over time.
