2019
April has the idea for Simba while doing fieldwork in Nairobi as part of her work at The London School of Economics.
2020
The name “Simba” is coined and the concept explored  during LSE coursework.
Rob & April refine the model supporting Rob’s work in Africa and Central Asia while on a roadtrip in Italy.
2021
April & Katie agree to explore building Simba as a tech-for-good startup.
The first MVP is built as a savings platform and iterated on with potential users; April & Katie present Simba at Web Summit Lisbon.
2022
Based on customer feedback, Simba pivots the core concept and incorporates with its first pilots. 🎉

The team participates in OCEAN accelerator and secures their first funding.
2023
Simba launches its MVP with successful first pilots, operating in 9 countries.

The team conducts fieldwork in Nicaragua and deep-dives impact measurement at Oxford University's Impact Measurement Programme
2024
Simba Labs R&D program is launched and onboards an expanded beta.

The team does their first in-person deployment in Uganda and Kenya.
2025
Simba operates in 56 countries with 9.5x annual growth; the remote team of eight is located in Southern California, Raleigh-Durham, and London.

Simba V1 is launched and poised to serve a broader market.

Is there a free trial available?
Yes, you can try a demo survey for free - it even includes an AI integration to help you make questions for a short survey. Our team can help you get set up, just send us an email at demo@simbatech.io.
What kinds of plans do you offer?
We offer multiple tiers of subscription plans to serve the needs of different customers, depending on the number of customers they serve and the level of consulting they need to get up-and-running. For a rate sheet, contact hello@simbatech.io.

How does billing work?
We bill based on a monthly subscription, and also offer a discounted annual rate.
What can Simba be used for?
Simba is great for longitudinal and pulse-check surveys. These surveys are short, generally less than 20 questions, and repeatable. We find that this style of survey is great for sentiment analysis and getting real, direct data on change over time. It’s also a good fit  for market research and collecting information from distributed teams.Impact organizations often have long surveys, since they currently don’t have direct community outreach. We have methods for managing longer surveys (e.g. question randomization) to consolidate them for ease of delivery over Simba. Shorter surveys have higher completion rates, no matter what the delivery method!
Can Simba be used by any organization?
We specialize in the needs of "impact organizations," defined as organizations with a primary goal of positive social or environmental impact. These can be organizations like nonprofits, social enterprises, or governments. We do not and will never sell ads or sell the data we collect.
Is it safe to use AI for this kind of analysis?
Yes! We use AI to conduct tasks like coding for sentiment analysis or voice memo transcription - simple, repeatable tasks that would normally be done by a human. In fact, AI is more likely to execute these kinds of tasks reliably and without mistakes than human operators, because it is not prone to human error from things like fatigue or inconsistent training.

We consistently cross-check our AI outputs to make sure they are in line with what we would expect from manual review. We don't see AI as a replacement for human judgement.
Do you help organizations with other tech things?
While we focus on offering our subscription product, we take customer feedback very seriously and build our backlog based on their feedback. We also offer consulting packages to help with data strategy and related things. That said, our core focus is helping with data collection and analysis, and building tech that facilitates this.
How does Simba make money?
The international development sector is huge - Americans alone donate about $500 billion annually to nonprofits. We charge organizations in this sector a subscription fee for using our service.

As a for-profit social enterprise, we balance positive social impact with profitability, and believe it’s important to be self-sustaining in order to ensure we’re creating value and can scale our impact over time.
